A World Heritage Site
Home to of the largest game populations in the world
The Ngorongoro Crater is a stunning natural and geographical attraction.
It is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, and in the
natural bowl of the collapsed volcano, reside more than 30 000 animals.
The 600m deep crater covers 260km² and provides excellent game
viewing, of the Big Five and large herds of antelope. The crater is
protected as part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Apart from
wildlife, this area is also home to the local Masaai tribe, who may
be seen traditionally herding their cattle surrounded by wild animals,
as has been their custom for ages.
