Oldest desert in the world
Has the highest sand dunes in the world
Standing on top of one of the highest dunes in the world, several
hundred metres high, is an absolutely unforgettable experience. The
2 000km long desert is a remarkable place of great beauty and spiritual
power: this sea of golden-red dunes, sculpted by the hot desert wind
is simply a photographer's delight.
Approximately 80-million-years-old, the Namib's main tourist destinations
are Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon. Most of the desert, and its uniquely
adapted animals, are protected as part of the Namib-Naukluft Park,
the country's largest protected area at 50 000km².
