Botswana is a country of vast and sweeping spaces. For many years,
it has been the off-the-beaten-track choice of well-heeled travellers.
The Okavango
Delta has been described as one of Africa's most beautiful places
and remains one of the prime sightseeing destinations of Africa.
Background: Botswana was formerly known as Bechuanaland (British colony
until 1966). It was first inhabited by San (Bushmen), then the Khoi-Khoi
(Hottentots) and Bantu groups. Botswana is one of Africa's most stable
and peaceful democracies and boasts huge diamond deposits.
